CAMERON WICK A graduate of Douglas Anderson School of the Arts in Jacksonville, Cameron comes from a background of symphonic percussion, drum set, and hand percussion. He has been teaching privately for 15 years and has worked as an instructor at Guitar Center Lessons Studio and the Music’s Edge Rock Camp in Eugene. He currently plays with SingleMaltPlease, a New Orleans-based hip-hop jazz fusion band. In addition to teaching, Cameron performs throughout the year between Eugene and New Orleans, performs annually at Oregon Country Fair, and has toured the Pacific Northwest with El Borko Surf. He draws inspiration from many of the great American jazz drummers, as well as progressive rock, funk, and fusion drumming. He is also influenced by the vast cultural traditions of percussion, whether it be congas, tabla, cajon, djembe, doumbek, or mallet percussion. “Drumming is amazing because it requires an understanding of different musical traditions that are all part of the same language. The most fun part of being a drummer is being able to communicate without speaking.”
